Starter Skateparks, getting the kids skating

Many communities are under the impression that you need $50,000, $100,000 or even $250,000 to get you kids skating and nothing could be further from the truth.

At Who Skates, we believe that actually getting the kids skating is the most important and most difficult step. By providing a small area for them to skate, often using as little as 1000 square feet, the kids, community and local government can begin to see the rewards of providing a safe place for kids to practice their sport. With an actual Skatepark in place, no matter how small, fundraising, community awareness and skater participation become easier.

How much de we need to spend on a Starter Park

Starter parks can cost as little as $5000 and all of the ramps can be used later when the final Skatepark is designed and built.

Where can we put a Starter Park?

Using a small section of school parking lot during the summer months, a tennis or basketball court that needs resurfacing or even a small parcel of unimproved land for a small Skate Plaza are all EXCELLENT ways to get the first park off the ground. By providing as little as 6 ramps and rails, the site can easily be reconfigured or removed entirely when school goes back in to session. Most Cities and Towns actually encourage Starter SkateParks as a way to test the waters before jumping in with both feet.

How long does it take?

Generally, a small Starter Park can be delivered within 30 days.
A small Skate Plaza can be built in about 45 days.
